I enjoy photography. I primarily take digital photography although I own a film camera as well. I would guess that around 10 years ago or so, the quality of digital got to the point where I felt that I can devote much more of my efforts into digital rather than film.
As a tech guy, I definitely enjoy the gear that goes into photography. I mostly shoot with a Leica rangefinder these days but used to shoot a lot of DSLR with my Canon and still have my Canon gear as well.
I enjoy the simplicity of using a Leica with prime lenses and manual focus. The Leica platform is also much smaller and easier to carry around so I tend to have my camera with me more often than when I used to lug around my DSLR gear. I generally shoot with a Leica M240 and have a decent collection of Leica lenses including a 24mm summarit, 50mm summilux, 90mm summilux, etc. For convenience I also have a Q (comes with a fixed 28mm summilux). For nostalgia sake, I also have a couple of old M9 bodies (with updated sensors). For film, I have an M6 but don’t use it very often.
I sometimes shoot DSLR and use a Canon 1Ds Mark 3. I still have a bunch of L lenses but mostly zoom lenses including the 17-40, 24-70, 70-200 2.8 IS, etc. I have some primes as well but there are non L lenses such as the 50 1.4, 85 1.8, 100 2.8 macro, etc.
I mostly take landscapes when on vacation and portraits of the kids.
